sampler songs and individual or split ep submissions.

what the...?
if you're interested in being on the next sampler or are interested in putting out an ep on vinyl and can't afford to... just take your time and carefully read what i've text rambled... feel free to point out any unclear statements or typing errors so i can fix them.

four pack of seasonal samplers:
i plan on releasing four samplers for the next four seasons.
tracks will be chosen by a panel of people that i feel have a good sense of what should be heard by the world and deserves to be pressed on vinyl.
digital downloads of all formats will be free and donations will be taken towards the pressing on vinyl... people who donate will get their donation amounts worth of vinyl and be asked to cover the shipping cost if they cannot pick it up.
if the sampler does not get pressed, bands will keep money donated towards their tracks if the donations don't reach goal within six months.
requirements are that you must have a bandcamp hooked up to a paypal or be willing to trust we won't take your donations and give them to someone else... if you don't have a bandcamp and you aree an artist, you really should make one though.
unreleased tracks only.
four to five minutes max... if you have to go over, your track will only get chosen if it is really amazing since we are limiting it to 18 minutes a side for best quality possible... some tracks that don't make the cut may be chosen for a double album cd length version that people can burn and share with others.
submissions are due by april 30, 2010 for the spring sampler.
make a bandcamp... upload the track from the master mix... send a link over...
if you don't get chosen you won't get notified.
no ignorant questions will be answered... if you don't know how to do something properly yet, you're probably aren't ready to submit a track and should do some homework before you apply for college.
if your goals are to be a big star... go somewhere else.
if you love vinyl and love music and just make music because it's something you feel you have to do... you'll probably get chosen.
if you go to a big studio and have producers polish up your tracks for you... don't bother.
d.i.y. and good ol' independent imaginative studio work only.
samplers will be pressed on recycled vinyl with recycled sleeves... just to do our little part for the environment... if you would like to donate unwanted 12" sleeves... contact us and we'll send you a shipping address.

cover designers or title submissions for samplers:
if you would like to design the cover for the sampler... or suggest a new title... the current planned title is april may, but june definitely won't work.
you know what size a 12" cover is... if you need a template or a canvas, pull an unwanted sleeve apart... don't have one... 10 cents at a thrift store.

ep submissions:
same thing - bandcamp.
know your vinyl.
if you don't know your vinyl... do your homework.
we want all 7" and 12" pressings to go through gotta groove in cleveland unless you are overseas and want your record pressed in your homeland... if you are in the states and have a press of choice... feel free to use them if you have to have it that way.
pretend you're putting out a 7" ep, 10" ep, or one sided 12" ep if you don't mind being on a split with someone and upload it that way... when it comes time for pressing... that will be the final cut... if you have a band you want to do a split with... you must vouch for them or you can choose to be on a split with the first band to reach goal... when a band reaches goal for a split (set goal is for one-sided ep cost) they can choose if they want it to be just them... or the runner up in sales... if the runner up is not close enough to make up the difference in the next level of pressing costs... they will be asked if they can make up the difference first then the leading band... if they don't we may make up the difference or press an odd amount that we can get for the money raised.
this is good for cross promotion since twice as many will get your music for the same cost and twice as many or more will be pressed.
first band's cover will be on the normal front side... and runner up on the back... same with split listing on the spine... both will have a side of the insert for a back cover... if the runner up wants their cover on their copies to be the other way around, they must come up with the difference in breaking up the bulk printing cost... bands may also agree on shared cover and back to avoid insert costs... bands may also choose to repress individually or along with a different near release ep whenever they can afford it if the other band approves... this makes things way cheaper since the plates are already mastered and made for one side... which is the main cost in vinyl manufacturing.
donations towards individual releases will be collected by the bands and they will be responsible for reporting their download numbers and sales back monthly.
you must be honest to do this... lying will make people hate you in the long run.
the first sign of dishonesty or greed will cause you to be dropped from the roster and other promotions and banned from future releases... if you need money to support yourself... don't do this... you must be independently stable... just not financially able to put out vinyl... if you don't trust yourself to collect the money and info from donations then don't do this.
donation suggestions will be based on how much it costs to press 100 of your project
any donations lower than that that may just receive a cheap stamped cdr in a cardboard inkjet printed case if only 100 are pressed... the more that are pressed, the cheaper the cost, and the more people will get in return... first 100 must be sold as non-profit with shipping due upon completion... with promise of at cost to the amount of their donation up to the original pressing date.
pre-sales will go on for six months max from the digital download release date... all downloads must be posted as pay what you want with a suggested donation amount posted.
a list of details will be given to you to post for those who donate to read.
if you do not reach goal... you are expected to make up the rest of the balance or refund those who donated towards your project or offer them an alternative such as a cd version.
design your own covers and sleeves... this is for d.i.y. projects only and we will just be a collective effort for those with the same goal.
you must also be chosen after submitting or referred by an existing release's creators and you will be sponsored by them until you are accepted by all others involved... they will also be responsible for your actions and donation process.
this is not a free for all.
don't call or message constantly to ask if we liked your works.
they will all be evaluated at the rate they come in and be responded to accordingly.
if you get a "d.i.y." response in return... this just means do it yourself.
we're not judging you as a person... we just really don't think we'd like to own this in our vinyl collection.
bands will chose their own label to be credited for distribution unless they want the poor kids' records or pork records of n.e. ohio logo added to their release and want us to handle the pressing and shipping process for them... we suggest you do this on your own for the experience... we also think you should make or screen your own original sleeve designs instead of just generic mass printing.
poor kids' records logo is only for those who plan on selling their releases for more than cost.
pork records of n.e. ohio is for non-profit releases only... at cost plus shipping and at most a dollar for handling (use recycled materials for shipping and bubble wrap)... you can always remove or change logos at repress.
if you are caught selling non-profit releases or samplers for more than cost, you will also be dropped from the roster and from promotions.
we suggest that eps only contain one track at most from a previous release unless it is a completely different sounding version or remix and also that you only submit original recordings or cover songs that you have obtained permissions to use... legal permissions and not something like, "yeah dylan mumbled, 'sure what'ev' when i asked him about it when i saw him coming out of the bathroom at the regal two years ago."
any other questions... message me privately and not in a comment on myspace since sometimes e-mails get deleted when sorting out spam... if you want to know if we read your message... just look in your sent folder there to see if we did instead of inquiry... all messages are usually answered within a few hours after they are read.

album submissions will follow after ep submissions if you feel you are up to the task and enough people will donate towards the pressing...
you can also sell cds or cassettes of any release to raise money for your own supply of vinyl.
if you do put out an album after an ep, we suggest that you only use one track at most from original ep or any other release unless you are using your plates to release a double ep that is advertised as a double ep and not a new album.

later.
-drk
